I received this CD of adoption themed songs. It is certainly a Christian CD. Each of the artists that recorded the songs for this CD are Christian musicians as their profession, and the lyrics portray that as well. Whether you enjoy Christian music or not, the lyrics are beautiful, and convey the emotions of so many adoptive parents.
I was excited to hear it because the first song is by Steven Curtis Chapman. If you listen to contemporary Christian music at all, you have heard of him. The Chapman’s are also very active in adoption. They have beautiful little girls that they have adopted, and have even started the Shaohannah’s Hope Foundation.
Other artists on the CD are adoptive parents as well.
“All This Time” by Sandi Patty is not specifically an adoption song, but the lyrics are beautiful and it is written as a tribute to her daughter, Anna. Sandi has four children, three step children, and her eighth child is adopted.
Geoff More is also an adoptive parent and sings “Swept Away”. In 2001 and 2003, he and his wife went to East Asia to adopt Anna Grace, and Ashley Rose, from China.
Rita Springer who sings the song “Love with Justice” has a little boy adopted from Zimbabwe.
Todd Agnew’s song “New Name” is by far the edgiest and most rock like song on the CD. The lyrics are so incredibly powerful. Todd was abandoned at birth, and the lyrics of his song reflect the potential feelings of an adoptee.
They called me broken, worthless, and a shame
They called me wasted, used up, and chained
But you made me Your child
And You called me Your own
Now they can call me,
But they’ve got to use my new name
Chuck & Lynette Giacinto record the song “The Greatest of These”. The song is based on the bible verse:
1 Corinthians 13:13 (New International Version)
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
It is their record label, Adoptive Music that produces this CD. They have a daughter named Dani, adopted from China.
Sandi Padilla sings a beautiful song about a baby placed for adoption, title “Arms of Love”.
The song “Someone is Waiting” by threefour:one is one that many adoptive parents can relate to. It is about the longing parents have to be matched with their “perfect” child. However, one of the members, Carolyn, can relate very well to the heartbreak of a failed match. She and her husband were matched with a little girl in China, but due to medical issues, they were unable to bring her home.
Becky Wright’s song “Child of My Heart” was inspired by a family that she knew that had adopted three special needs children. It has the familiar saying of many adoptive parents. You are a child of my heart, not of my blood.
And the final song, “Miracle of Life” by Mary Rice-Hopkins is about the miracle that parents feel when their child is placed with them.
